In the Civil and Urban Engineering department, we have a student-to-faculty ratio of 9 to 1 at the undergraduate level, and an average class size of 30 students or less at the graduate level. Our professors are renowned in their fields and have a variety of experiences in research, academia, and industry. They go above and beyond to ensure students have everything they need to thrive in our programs.

With over 103 countries represented, our students engage with other students and faculty from across the world. The breadth of cultures, views, and identities create an exciting learning environment. Additionally, with a Tandon student population that is 35% female, 40% first-generation college students, and 50% Pell grant recipients, students are interacting with peers from various socioeconomic and racial backgrounds. When students leave Tandon, they leave with a holistic world view.

CUE prepares you for adversity very well. I feel like nothing I will encounter in my future work will be as challenging as some of the courses and material I needed to learn.

This program offered a comprehensive course load that fully prepared me for the FE exam and a career in the civil engineering or construction industry.

The classes replicated the work environment and projects that we would encounter in the field.

Our courses are designed to prepare students for the real world. From day one, students are given assignments and projects designed around real-world scenarios. Our professors on average have decades worth of industry experience that they bring into the classrooms. These projects allow students to discover their strengths and improve on their weaknesses. During their final year, students work on a capstone project designed to simulate what it's like to work on a team with other engineers. Our department is highly respected and carries a stellar reputation within the marketplace, leading to many of our students landing multiple internships throughout their time at CUE, and to full-time employment once they graduate. 

Studying in CUE allowed me to specialize in any specific area of civil engineering, while still being exposed to several different areas of it throughout my academic career.

Students are introduced to all disciplines in civil engineering so that if you decide to pivot careers, you can.

Our curriculum is designed to expose students to the six different concentrations that we offer. We aim to give students a comprehensive overview of the various areas of civil and urban engineering. Once students learn about the different areas, they then concentrate on the one of their choosing. Students can specialize in structural, geotechnical, construction, environmental, transportation, or urban systems engineering. 

There's a variety of civil engineering-related clubs.

VIP projects provided us with real-world experiences.

We offer a variety of student-run clubs that allow students to dive into their areas of interest. These clubs offer workshops, career advancement opportunities, community engagement activities, and community. Additionally, students can participate in Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP), which are long-term, large-scale projects that combine education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. These extracurricular activities allow students to explore different interests and dive deeply into certain aspects of civil engineering, while building friendships and connections within the department.

Our campus is in the heart of Downtown Brooklyn. At Tandon, our students experience the rich culture of Brooklyn, along with easy access to Manhattan. Students spend their time between these boroughs soaking up the rich history and culture of the city. New York City gives students ample opportunity to immerse themselves in not only their professional interests, being home to countless top engineering companies, but also to explore their creative interests.
