- What are the entrance requirements for the Cybersecurity, M.S.?

As with all of our Master's programs, applicants are required to have received a 4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Please visit the Cybersecurity Master's page for detailed information on admission requirements.
- Is the GRE test required for admission?

The GRE/GMAT is not required for admission to the online Cybersecurity MS degree. Applicants are welcome to submit scores as a supplemental document if desired.
- My previous degrees were not in computer science. Can I still apply?

Although it is not a requirement to have a prior degree in a computer science related field, our admissions team will be looking for applicants to have some background in computer science, be it educational or professional. Those without any technical background are encouraged to consider applying for the NYU Tandon Bridge program, which is a 21 or 28-week program designed to prepare those interested in applying to a technical MS degree.
- What courses are required to complete the Cybersecurity Master's program?

Students will need to take ten 3-credit courses to complete the program. These will include four required cybersecurity courses, three breadth electives, and three depth electives. A capstone project is also required to be completed in the last year of study. You can visit the Cybersecurity Master's webpage for further details on the curricula and sample syllabi for each class.
- How long will it take me to complete the Cybersecurity Master's degree?

To complete the Cybersecurity program, you will need to finish 30 credits (10 courses). If you attend as a full-time student and take at least 3 courses per semester, you will complete the program within 1.5-2 years. If you attend as a part-time student and take 1 or 2 courses per semester, you can complete the program in about 3 years. You also have the option to take courses in the summer, although course availability is limited. As stipulated in the university catalog, master's students have a total of 5 years to complete their degree requirements. - Is the program's curriculum flexible? Can I choose some courses outside the computer science department?

You will be able to select your electives of interest from an extensive list of breadth and depth electives to customize this program to your own interests. You can also take elective courses that may be outside of the computer science department with the approval of your academic advisor.
- How many credits do I need to take to qualify as a full-time student?

To be considered a full-time student, you must take 9 credits (3 courses) or more per semester. Part-time students are permitted to take 3-6 credits (1-2 courses) per semester.
- I took certification courses in CISSP, CISA, CISM, CCNA, SCSA, SCNA, are they transferable?

No. Credit for certification courses in CISSP, CISA, CISM, CCNA, SCSA, SCNA are not transferable to this program.
- Can I get NSA certificates upon completing the Cybersecurity Master's program?

NYU Tandon School of Engineering is one of the select institutions recognized by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C). Courses taken within the Cybersecurity Master's Degree online program qualify for designations in Cyber Operations and/or Cyber Defense. Students also may elect to specialize by taking specific courses in an area of concentration.
- I have been admitted to the Computer Science Master's program at the School of Engineering. Can I transfer into the Cybersecurity Master's program?

Pending approval from the department, you may be able to transfer into the Cybersecurity, M.S. program. See Request to Change Major form here for more details.
- I already have a master's degree in computer science and I am interested in the Cybersecurity Master's program. Can I substitute classes I took for my computer science degree for the cybersecurity degree?

Unfortunately we do not allow substitutions from other programs. Pending approval from your academic advisor, you may qualify to take a more advanced course or elective in its place.
- Can I complete the entire Master's degree online?

Yes, you can complete the degree fully online. If you would like to take an on-campus course, you just need an advisor or departmental approval to be registered. While we can’t guarantee acceptance to a specific course, it should in general be very possible to accomplish. Your advisor can help advocate for you in these cases. You will also need to take at least half of the courses in the modality to which you’ve applied (online). Since it’s a 10 course degree, you could take up to six (6) courses online and 4 on-campus.

- I’m interested in the Cyber Fellows scholarship program. How do I apply for that?

To apply to become a Cyber Fellow check “yes” to the interest question in the Cybersecurity Master's application. There is no separate application process for the Cyber Fellows program; instead, our Graduate Admissions team will assess your Master's application for acceptance into the Cybersecurity Master's and Cyber Fellows program at the same time
