Dr. Flowers obtained his Ph. D. from the University of California, San Diego and is presently a Research Associate at the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology at New York University and New York University Abu Dhabi. In his own research, Dr. Flowers has led multiple large-scale resequencing projects and has been chiefly responsible for bioinformatics aspects of a number of others principally in the field of plant genomics.
He has developed and implemented fully automated and scalable methods for processing of large genomics datasets and has supervised a number of graduate-level students who conducted independent projects in this area. Dr. Flowers has developed the Next Generation Sequence Analysis course at NYU Poly and has taught the course three times.
