Joseph Borowiec

Joseph Borowiec is an alumnus of Polytechnic who joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering as an Industry Associate Professor in 2009. He was promoted to Industry Professor in 2012 and teaches courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He was also an Adjunct Professor from 1996 to 2008 and is a licensed Professional Engineer.

Classes Professor Borowiec has taught include: Statics, Mechanics of Materials, Senior Design I, Senior Design II, Finite Element Analysis, Vibration Fundamentals & Design, Introduction to Solid Mechanics, Advanced Mechanics of Materials, Advanced Dynamics, Digital Controls, Applied Computational Methods, and Vibrations. He sits on numerous committees and was elected to the NYU University Senate as a Faculty Senator from 2014 to 2018. Recipient of the 2019 Jacobs Excellence in Education Award.

During his career in industry, Professor Borowiec worked on over 100 products and subsystems. He developed particular expertise in the areas of thermal and structural dynamics design and testing. He was a member of numerous award-winning commercial product design teams (two Bell Laboratories President's Gold Awards, Bell Laboratories President's Silver Award, NSG President's Award, and two Lucent Technologies Environment Champions Awards) and government sector development teams.

Enjoyed a long career related to the design and development of power, undersea surveillance, and wireless products and systems covering requirements generation to final manufacture. Started as a Member of Technical Staff in 1985. Appointed to Distinguished Member of Technical Staff in 1997, and Consulting Member of Technical Staff in 2000.
