5G: How this technology affects commercial aircrafts
After airlines expressed concerns regarding the 5G deployment, two of the largest US cell phone carriers, AT&T and Verizon, announced that they would delay the rollout of 5G networks near airports. To help ease the stress, NYU WIRELESS Founding Director and David Lee/Ernst Weber Professor of Electrical Engineering Theodore (Ted) Rappaport explains "It's a simple technical solution. Everything is easily solved on aircraft ... . They just have to put in band filters so they are less susceptible to interference from other bands," adding that "There is already a guard band that the FCC has been considering for almost two years. The 220 megahertz guard band already exists."
