AI COVID monitoring tool modified to track congestion
Researchers based in NYU Tandon’s C2SMART Center have retrofitted an AI tool originally developed during COVID that used object detection to calculate pedestrian and traffic densities. Traffic Engineer and Senior Research Associate at C2SMART Jingqin Gao explained that “by exploring these different trends, [they are] trying to better understand if there are new patterns during and after the lockdown.”
