City Council passes raft of bills to prevent rampant battery fires
A record number of fires caused by lithium-ion batteries prompted the New York City Council to pass a slate of bills aimed at prevention. NYU Tandon Professor Nikhil Gupta, member of NYU Tandon's Center for Cybersecurity, said measures like requiring delivery workers to use fire-proof containers when charging batteries is a good start, but more is needed. “It [the container] should not just be for charging, but for use on the bike itself to prevent injury if something happens,” he said.
