Why Russia's massive cyberattack is especially insidious


Justin Cappos, an associate professor of computer science and engineering and expert on the security of software update protocols, weighs in on the recent attack of cybersecurity firm FireEye through malware attached to a SolarWinds software update. Cappos explained that when nation states attack, they tend to attack through software updaters, "Because ...  you’re supposed to be doing things like applying a software update, and if you don’t apply software updates, you’re absolutely, definitely vulnerable. Because old software is vulnerable software.”
